pick Burleigh. leave the rest for another day.
For a first shared morning, our suggestion is to keep one base: Burleigh. Meet for coffee, decide whether a walk suits you both, then leave lunch optional. Trying to fit the whole Gold Coast into one catch-up makes every decision harder.
- A short first meeting: allow 45–60 minutes for coffee and conversation.
- With a walk: leave around two hours for meeting, getting to the park and stops along the way.
- No ocean required: a coastal morning does not have to include surfing or swimming.
These are our suggested outing windows; the official track timings below cover walking only.
know which track you are choosing.
Burleigh Head National Park’s Rainforest circuit is 2.3km return, with an official walking estimate of 45 minutes. It is Grade 3, has steps and includes a steep section near Tumgun Lookout. It is not suitable for wheelchair users.
The Oceanview track is 1.2km one way, with an estimate of 30 minutes. It is Grade 2 and described as wheelchair-accessible with assistance. It can close because of rockfall risk. Stay on marked tracks and out of restricted boulder areas.
At our 26 October 2026 check: Queensland Parks listed a wet-weather Oceanview closure for 22–28 October. Do not assume it has reopened based on that end date; check live alerts before travelling, including any restrictions affecting the Rainforest circuit.
a clear place to start.
The park’s northern entrance is along Goodwin Terrace, with picnic facilities and toilets nearby. If you plan to walk, agree on the exact meeting point and route beforehand. Meet in a busy public place first; do not start a first introduction halfway along a track.
If the park is closed or the weather is poor, keep the coffee plan instead. Send that change before either person sets off. Avoid swapping a closed route for an unfamiliar scramble or an unplanned swim.
keep costs and confidence in the open.
Choose between buying breakfast and bringing a picnic before the day. Check menus, parking and your return journey yourself. If one person wants a surf lesson or equipment hire, treat that as a separate paid activity with a provider, rather than an assumed part of the catch-up.
Be honest about your walking pace and water confidence. Someone else being keen to surf does not mean you need to join them. For swimming, follow lifeguard advice and local conditions.
